In Vienna's first district, there are various pharmacies located in
buildings of architectural interest or which show interesting historical
furnishings. There are baroque-style pharmacies belonging to religious
orders such as the Barmherzigen Brüder or the Ursulinen and pharmacies
decorated according to Art Nouveau style, Classicism and Biedermeier.
The former pharmacy of the Ursulinen order is now part of the collections
of the Austrian Museum of Folk Life and Folk Art. When roaming around
in Vienna's town centre your eyes will catch diverse details reminding
of the town's history of pharmacy. They range from the memorial plaque
of an apothecary attached to the facade of Saint Stephan's cathedral
to a small shop specialised in selling antiquities of medical and
pharmaceutical interest.
